Privacy Policy

This policy explains how ZiReader handles information when you use the app.
Information we collect
- Account information: your email address, account identifier, and display name.
- Learning information: recognized characters, character review activity, reading position, generated stories, selected story characters, and related learning progress.
- Usage analytics: when Usage Analytics is on while you are signed in, limited product-interaction events such as app and reading session starts, completion of the optional calibration, a reading session reaching five active minutes, and categories of reading-help actions. These events include app version and build, platform, coarse reading-position and document-type categories, random session identifiers, and timestamps. They do not include imported book text, titles, filenames, Chinese characters or words you look up, sentences, definitions, generated story content, feedback text, or exact reader positions.
- Feedback: information you choose to submit through the app, including your message and account identifier.
- Service information: limited technical information processed by our service providers to operate authentication, synchronization, feedback, and story generation.
Information stored on your device
Imported EPUB files and their extracted content are stored locally on your device. Imported books are not currently synchronized between devices. Handwriting strokes are evaluated on the device for simple stroke-count feedback and are not uploaded or saved as handwriting samples.
How we use information
We use information to create and secure your account, synchronize learning progress, restore your reading position, generate requested stories, respond to feedback, prevent abuse, maintain ZiReader, and—when Usage Analytics is enabled—understand whether product features help learners begin and continue meaningful reading sessions.
Story generation
When you request a generated story, your selected Chinese characters and generation preferences are sent securely to our server and OpenAI to create the story. Do not enter sensitive personal information into story requests.
Service providers
ZiReader uses Supabase for authentication, database storage, synchronization, feedback, first-party usage analytics, and server functions. It uses OpenAI to generate stories when requested. These providers process information as needed to provide their respective services and under their own terms and privacy practices.
Retention and deletion
We retain account and synchronized learning information while your account remains active. Raw usage-analytics events are retained for no more than 90 days from receipt. You can delete your account from Account, opened from the profile button on ZiReader's Read or Practice screen. Account deletion removes the account and associated synchronized app data, including usage-analytics events, subject to limited backup, security, fraud-prevention, or legal retention requirements. The app also clears ZiReader data associated with the account from the device where you confirm deletion. See our account deletion instructions.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, but no method of electronic storage or transmission can be guaranteed completely secure.
Children
ZiReader is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Your choices
You may turn Usage Analytics off or on from Account; turning it off clears unsent analytics events from that device and stops new events from being recorded. You may also delete locally imported documents, sign out, or delete your account. You may contact us with privacy questions or requests.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as ZiReader changes. We will update the effective date on this page when we do.
